Volunteer of the Year Award
The Mayor of Jerusalem's Award for Volunteer of the Year was awarded in 2008 to Mrs. Esther ben Yaakov for her decade plus volunteering at SULAM.
The prize committee chose Mrs. Ben Yaakov for her contribution to children with special needs by installing zootherapy as an integral part of the emotional therapies program in all six of the SULAM branches. She is responsible for creating the program and its continued on-going operation. In addition to her special responsibilities for the zootherapy program, Mrs. Ben Yaakov contributes to the children of SULAM in a myriad of ways, 'adopting' them as her own.
The Trump Family Chessed Award
The Trump Family Chessed Award was awarded to the SULAM organization on the recommendation of the Beit Issie Shapiro Rehabilitation Center in .Ra'anana, Israel.
In the words of one of the judges: “The SULAM organization provides boundless love and professional expertise, helping children with special needs to climb the ladder of progress step after step to realize their hidden abilities. Hundreds of children, some of whom already completed their program at SULAM, owe SULAM their current progress, the promising future that awaits them, and, most importantly - their belief in themselves and in their abilities. Thousands of parents and family members raising special children owe this wonderful organization the hope and feeling of encouragement that they are not alone, even at the most difficult times.
