| At SULAM we aim to provide our children with a maximum therapeutic program that will enable them to overcome their handicaps and give them a chance for a brighter future. |
How YOU can help ?
General Donation
Every gift makes a difference- Make a general donation
to benefit Sulam's special children.
Adopt a Child
The children at Sulam receive government funding for
a package of therapies. This includes a minimal amount
of basic therapies, such as speech, physical and occupational
therapies. However, this allowance is not sufficient
to fill the needs of each child. Sulam prides itself
on providing for every individual child the maximum
therapies that he needs to fulfill his potential,
so he can look forward to a brighter future. Our "Adopt
a Child" program enables you to sponsor the education
of one child at Sulam per year. Total cost: $1200.
Sponsor a Project
Sulam is constantly updating and expanding its programs.
Therefore, there are constant specific projects in
the planning, for which funding from external sources
is necessary:
| Playground
Equipment: |
Sulam is constantly
growing and expanding and a new playground is
installed in every new branch. A playground is
something from which all children benefit, but
for children with special needs, a playground
means more than just "a place to play." For these
children, guided outdoor play helps develop fine
and gross motor skills, proper balance and muscle
tone. To accomplish these goals, special playgrounds
are needed with therapeutic equipment including
rubber matting, a sand/ water table, swings and
slides. |
Costs:
Playground #1 = $25,000
Playground #2 = $18,000
|
| Afternoon
Enrichment Program: |
This program provides
additional days' activities to an afternoon enrichment
program which, in its increased format, provides
hot, nutritious lunches to all 90 Afikim Elementary
School students (many of whom will otherwise not
be served a normal meal the entire day) as well
as an exciting and educational afternoon program
in a safe, supportive environment. This includes:
Music, arts-and-crafts, baking and outdoor educational
trips. |
Costs:
Salary of Staff= $188,000
Transportation+Entrance Fees= $23,600
Enrichment Materials= $27,400

|
| Scholarships
for Babies: |
There are 16 babies
in Sulam’s Early Intervention Program who
are not eligible for government funding needed
for a full therapy program, due to the fact that
they are not labeled with a clear-cut diagnosis.
This is tragic for these children whose disabilities
CAN BE OVERCOME with early intervention. These
babies need your help in order to receive a full
therapeutic program that will enable them to develop
into healthy young adults and to lead a perfectly
normal life. |
Annual budget deficit
per child: $11,800
Annual deficit
for 16 children: $188,800

| Program
for Autistic Children |
Sulam provides
one of Israel's best and most effective program
of communication for children with Autism/PDD.
This is done in the following ways:
1. Dr. Greenspan's unique "Floor Time"
method is implemented by highly trained and
qualified staff. This program includes enrichment
and training for parents.
2. Sulam’s children participate in an
integration program in which they join in a
regular classroom for a few hours each week.
They attend music lessons at the Conservatorium
together with regular children, and they go
on educational trips that teach them how to
cope with daily issues.
3. Sulam provides its Autistic children with extra
therapies, such as music, hydro, animal and computer
therapies in addition to the basic government-funded
program that includes speech and occupational
therapy. |
Costs: Integration Program
including
transportation and trips: $16,580
Staff and parental training: $31,920
Extra therapy program: $8,200 per month

| Snoezelen |
A successful treatment
with many of our children is a multi-sensory stimulation
therapy program, which takes place in a Snoezelen,
a room with lights, music and many other effects.
The unique experience in this room allows the
child control of his own sensory atmosphere in
a non-threatening environment, thus enabling children
to overcome their fears of social contact, and
encouraging communication.
The Snoezelen’s specialized (and quite costly)
equipment is chosen carefully to provide the perfect
balance between sensory stimulation and relaxing
experiences. The equipment includes water mattresses,
a Fibre Optic Light Spray, spotlights, mirror
balls, a stereo system and more. Help us equip
our Snoezelen. |
Cost:
$25,000

An Exemplary Rehabilitation Center
Sulam is in the process
of constructing a new state-of-the-art, five-story
Educational and rehabilitation Center for Jerusalem's
youngest segment of developmentally delayed children.
This Center in conveniently located in the heart
of Jerusalem on Sorotzkin Street and plans include
an on-site "Petting Farm" for domestic
animals, an especially equipped Computer Center
and a fully outfitted, true-to-life neighborhood
grocery store where children can practice recognizing
specific products and "buying" them.
In recognition
of Sualm's accomplishments over the years, the
Municipality of Jerusalem has donated the land
for the new building and will provide matching
funds for all donations. Our new facility will
provide the most up-to-date treatment and therapies
for hundreds of children each year, enabling
them to reach their fullest potential.
